Oftentimes, the best beauty strategies are also the most unexpected. (Who knew a potato could ever come in handy?!)
If you’re looking to shake up your beauty regimen, here are 7 tips to get you started. They may sound a bit strange, but they’re effective – and that’s what counts!
Tip #1: Lengthen lashes with flaxseed oil
Mascara can only do so much when you’re working with short, sparse eyelashes. Before bedtime, gently apply flaxseed oil along the base of your lashes and coat through to the tip.
Flaxseed oil is packed with vitamin E, which nourishes lash follicles, moisturizes your eyelashes, and even repairs damaged lashes to make them stronger – all while you sleep.
Tip #2: Brighten your smile with coconut oil
Swishing coconut oil around in the mouth – now referred to as “oil pulling” – is a beauty ritual that dates back to ancient times.
Coconut oil contains antibacterial properties, and dentists have claimed that oil pulling is a great way to improve your oral health. Aesthetically-speaking, it also does wonders for whitening your teeth.
Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around for 20 minutes (no more than that), followed by your regular brushing/flossing routine for a whiter, brighter smile.
Tip #3: Use lipstick as a cover up
You know those relentless dark circles under your eyes? Cover them up flawlessly with – get this – red lipstick. Red pigments neutralize the blue tones of under eye circles more effectively than your regular concealer.
Simply apply a touch of red lipstick to your dark spots, top with concealer that matches your natural skin tone, and you’re good to go.
Tip #4: Take a potato to those pits
To lighten the appearance of dark armpits, grate a potato and rub the pulp into your underarms (or you could use potato juice on its own), and rinse off in the shower.
Because of the potato’s mild properties, you won’t feel that painful sting of more acidic bleaching agents such as lemons.
Tip #5: Add ice water to your manicure
If you love a good DIY manicure, you know that nothing is more frustrating than smudging your masterpiece, even after 15 minutes of drying time.
To speed up the drying process, dunk your nails into a bowl of ice water (it MUST be ice water) for 2-3 minutes. This may seem counterproductive, but shocking your nails with cold water makes the polish set and harden in no time.
Tip #6: Treat yourself to a Pepto Bismol facial
That pink stuff in your medicine cabinet isn’t just for upset tummies anymore. Pepto Bismol contains bismuth subsalicylate, which has similar properties to salicylic acid (a common ingredient in acne medications).
Smooth a thin layer onto your face, let it dry for 20 minutes, and rinse off for smaller pores, tighter skin, and an oil-free finish. And don’t forget to moisturize after!
Tip #7: Give the girls a massage
Giving yourself a daily boob massage not only makes the girls look better, but promotes optimum breast health as well. Regular massage increases lymph circulation, helps to break up benign cysts, strengthens muscle tissue, prevents sagging, and maintains a perky shape.
